How To Use Your Fat Fungi Wood AIO - Lions Mane Grow Kit

Inoculation
- Your kit comes pre sterilised and ready for action
- Working in a clean environment with minimal airflow is always a good idea
- Unfold your bag and suspend it for a few minutes by holding the top seal. It’s a good idea to draw some air through the filter and into the bag to start. You can also gently grab the corners of the empty part of the bag and pull them apart to draw in air
- Use your free alcohol wipe to sanitize your hands, grow bag and spore/liquid culture syringe paying special attention to your injection port if you have one
- Attach your needle to your syringe. If your needle is new, it is already sterile. If your needle is, you will need to flame sterilise it with a needle until it is glowing hot
- Inject your port with 2.5cc of spore solution or LC
- If you do not have a port inject port, inject directly into your bag instead and cover with a piece of tape. Note this method has a higher chance of contamination.
- Remove your needle and flame sterilise between inoculating separate bags
- If you have anything left in your syringe cap it and store it in your fridge – it will be fine for months
- Store your bag in a warm spot – boiler cupboards can work well. Do not place it directly on a radiator this will kill mycelium you want a spot around 27C for the fastest growth
- Spores take up to 7-14 days to germinate so you will need to be patient. Liquid culture is already live mycelium and will begin to grow immediately
- Soon you will begin to see white mycelium forming around where you injected the bag
- Keep an eye out for contamination any not white growth is bad. A lot of moisture build up can also signal contamination – it comes in many forms it’s a good idea to research this.
- Keep in mind spores are inherently dirty and prone to carry contamination. This method of growing maximised your chances of success but don’t feel bad if you have some issues.
- Once mycelium has colonised 20-30% off your bag, break it up and mix it well. The aim is to spread the mycelium evenly around the bag to speed up colonisation
- Now you wait until the bag is 100% colonised and then it’s time to fruit!
Fruiting
- You will need a clear plastic storage container, large enough for your bag(s) with room for your mushrooms to grow, a misting bottle for tap water and iso alcohol wipes
- Ensure your tub is clean and dry, wipe with 70% alcohol
- Gently squeeze as much air as possible out of your grow bag, fold over the flap. This is to prevent mushrooms growing on the top of your block. This side will be the bottom to prevent the flap from opening
- Use a razor blade or sharp scissors to cut an X shape into the top side, your X should be 1.5” x 1.5”
- Place your bag into the storage box and mist gently with tap water
- Place the lid on the box but do not fully secure it to allow for air flow
- Find a location that receives indirect sunlight and maintains a warm temperature, anything over 20c is suitable
- Pins will begin to form within a week
- Pick your Lions Mane when ready, there is no exact point but here’s some things to look out for…
- The mushrooms icicles begin to lengthen
- Colours begin to change to orange/brown/pink
- The mushrooms have a firm but spongey feel when gently squeezed
- This is the ideal time to pick for taste
- Use a sharp knife to trim off your mushroom and enjoy! It will last up to a week in the fridge
- Don’t throw away your kit, keep an eye out for contaminations however you can get more flushes!
